We are very lucky to have a variety of pets at the Little Lane Nursery, you will often see Alfie the sausage dog, as well as our resident guinea pigs, Bubble and Squeak.
Every year we have an incubator and hatching eggs from Living Eggs, the children are able to watch the eggs hatch and take care of the chicks. Last year we hatched 10 chicks that have gone to live at our outdoor learning site, where the children can continue to look after them.
We have fresh eggs available on a daily basis for parents/carers to buy (there is a box in the reception area).
The educational value of a resident pet in developing an understanding of nature and respect for the environment is enormous without considering the fact that they are a great tool for a child’s personal development and provide endless fun and entertainment. In addition, we have also found having a pet can help to settle children much quicker into nursery.
