British Values

Promoting and Teaching British Values
The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated by the Prime Minister this year. At The Little Lane Nursery these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:

Democracy:

We listen to children’s and parent’s voice. Our school behaviour policy is clear that children are expected to contribute and co-operate, taking into account the views of others.

The Rule of Law:

We consistently reinforce our high expectations of children. Children are taught the value and reasons behind our expectations (rules), that they are there to protect us, that everyone has a responsibility and that there are consequences when rules are broken.

Individual Liberty:

Within school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young children to make choices safely, through our provision of a safe environment and empowering teaching. Children are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms.

Mutual Respect:

Part of our school ethos and behaviour policy has revolved around Core Values such as ‘Respect’, and children are modelled this by caring, sharing and listening to others. Staff help children to understand how to respect by talking about how actions/words can affect others.

Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs:

We aim to enhance children’s understanding of different faiths and beliefs by participating in a range of celebrations throughout the year. Children have the opportunity to dress-up in clothes and try different foods from other cultures and we encourage parents/carers to participate and support our multi-cultural events.

Ofsted Report

How do Ofsted regulate childcare?

Ofsted register and inspect those who provide early education or childcare for children from birth up to their eighteenth birthday in order to reassure parents and carers that children are cared for by people who are suitable to perform efficient childcare.

Ofsted are able to:
  • Register, suspend or cancel a childcare provider’s registration
  •  Inspect the childcare - usually without arranging this beforehand (an unannounced visit)
  • Take enforcement action against the provider in serious cases.

Ofsted inspectors visit providers who apply to join the Early Years Register to carry out an interview and confirm that their premises and equipment are suitable to be used for childcare. Inspectors must be sure that applicants can deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage 3 and meet all the requirements for registration.

They also inspect all providers on the Early Years Register at least once every three to four years and write a report which is published on their website.

The Little Lane Nursery in Stamford was registered with Ofsted in October 2015 and The Little Lane Nursery in Easton on Hill was registered with Ofsted in December 2017.   Our latest report and registration details can be found using this link:

The Little Lane Trek to the Sahara Desert 2022 with Coppafeel

We held our first Little Lane Charity Ball in October 2019 in memory of Bev (a former Little Lane team member) and Leanne (a Little Lane Nursery parent) that both passed away recently following a brave battle with cancer, both leaving behind young families.

We raised an impressive £4,000 for local charity 'Don't Lose Hope'.

'Don’t Lose Hope' is a new registered charity in Bourne that offers a means related counselling service for children, young people, their families and other members of the community. This is a free service for families/individuals on low income or state benefits, and affordable to working families.

'Don’t Lose Hope' is centered around a community cafe which provides support groups, workshops and advice. The cafe is staffed by volunteers and trained professionals. This is a space where anyone can drop in and find someone to talk to, get involved in activities, make friends or just have a slice of cake and a cup of tea. We hope this will bring members of the community together from all age groups.'

The Little Lane Sahara Desert 100km Trek with Coppafeel 2022

Hi everyone!

I've known for a few weeks now, but having had my first Zoom meeting with Giovanna Fletcher and the Coppafeel Charity team last night, the realisation that i'm actually going to be undertaking the Coppafeel charity Sahara Desert Trek this November has suddenly become very real!

As a nursery, we employ over 40 women - the statistics say 1 in 7 women (and men) will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, that could be 6 members of our nursery team. The Coppafeel charity was started by a lady called Kris Hallenga - who at the age of 23 was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, following a lengthy battle to get a diagnosis due to her young age. The charity was born to spread awareness to the younger age groups - campaigning to make sure other young women and their doctors are made more aware of the risks. The charity promotes the importance of checking our breasts on a monthly basis - getting to know what's normal for us - making this normal practice for all women from a young age.

I applied to partake in the Coppafeel Trek in November 2022 and found out last month that I had been successful! I will therefore be walking 100km over 5 days across the Sahara Desert with a team of other fundraisers.

We will be putting on some fun fundraising activities at the nursery in the run up to the event - in the meantime we will be starting our funding the good old fashioned way, with cap in hand, in the form of a JustGiving page (please donate below!).

I really hope that you'll all be able to get behind us and raise some funds for this amazing charity.

I will keep you all updated with my progress via the JustGiving page - if anyone fancies any meet ups for walks to aid my training, please do let me know!

Thanks,

Victoria & The Little Lane Nursery Team x

The Little Lane Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge 2018

In 2018 we set ourselves and our parents a physical challenge - to undertake theYorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Saturday 28th April 2018.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24-miles long, and includes 5,200ft (1,585m) of ascent.

As several of our Little Lane families have experienced the amazing work of the Special Care baby unit in Peterborough City Hospital, including our nursery manager Emma, we dedicated our fundraising to Peterborough Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

I am thrilled to say that we raised a WHOOPING £3,825 for the Peterborough City Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The department has formulated a list of equipment that they would like us to purchase (it was decided this was the best way to donate the money, otherwise there would be no guarantee the money would reach the department intended). One of the items on this list is a SoundEar - they currently have some on the ward but our fundraising will mean each of the babies have this equipment - https://www.noisemeters.co.uk/product/soundear/classic/neonatal.asp.

Thank you to each and everyone of you who donated and a HUGE thank you to everyone that took part in such a fantastic event.

Dosh4Defibs 2017

In 2017 we launched a new fund raising initiaitve to raise £500 for a defibrilator to be installed within the nursery.  Sudden cardiac arrests happen around 140,000 times a year in the UK.  The potential for saving a life is dependent upon time, the faster the medical hep can be attained, the better the chances of survival.

Melissa, our fantastic Forest School leader, loves a challenge - so, if getting married that year wasn't enough, she also undertook the challenge of the Canalathon 75k ultra marathon in March, Boston Marathon in April and The Wall 69 mile ultra marathon in June.

We are delighted to say that we hit our target and now have a defib installed within the nursery,, which not only is a great asset to the nursery, but also to the wider local Stamford community.

Jo Price & Family Fundraiser 2016

In June 2016, Joanne Price, mum to Noah who attended the Little Lane Nursery within the Daisy Room (Noah also has three older sisters – Georgia aged 16, Lara aged 14 and Evie aged 9), found a lump in her breast. As Joanne has a young cousin who had breast cancer last year, and lost her mother to breast cancer 17 years ago, she was quickly assessed at Peterborough City Hospital. After a biopsy in July, Joanne and her family received the devastating news that the lump was an aggressive breast cancer that needed immediate treatment.

Understandably, this was a very challenging time for the family, further compacted by the fact that both Joanne and her husband are self employed and with four children it has been difficult both emotionally and financially. Joanne and her family have blown us away with their positivity, determination and love during this time.

The Little Lane Nursery set about making Christmas 2016 one to remember and raised an incredible £2,723 through a raffle (with so many amazing prizes donated by local businesses), cake stalls and fancy dress party.

Joanne has finished all active cancer treatment and the outlook is positive.
