Our Building
The Little Lane Nursery has made our home in a converted barn, the conversion was made some 20 years ago for the specific use as a Montessori school, so careful thought has gone in to the layout and design. It’s been described by some parents as a bit of a “Tardis”, it doesn’t look very big from the outside, but opens up in to this beautiful and deceptively spacious building.
Our Rooms
We have five thoughtfully designed rooms at The Little Lane Nursery, carefully tailored to support our babies, toddlers and preschoolers as they grow and develop.
Our rooms — Primrose, Buttercup, Daisy and Bluebell — each provide age-appropriate environments, alongside a dedicated sleep and sensory room to support rest, relaxation and wellbeing throughout the day.
Primrose Room
9 Babies, Ratio 1:3
The Primrose Room is thoughtfully designed for our youngest family members. This beautiful, open-plan space incorporates a dedicated eating area, a sensory-rich messy play zone, and a calm, cosy sleep room complete with bespoke full-sized cots.
Styled with a soft, vintage feel, the room has been carefully created to offer a true “home from home” environment — something we know is especially important for infants as they begin their nursery journey.
At the heart of the room is the kitchen table — just like in many homes, it’s where so much of the day unfolds. Here, children come together to eat, explore and connect, using beautifully crafted wooden tables and seating from Community Playthings, perfectly suited to our smallest children.
Buttercup Room
9 Babies, Ratio 1:3
The Buttercup Room is designed for our older babies, offering a calm, nurturing environment that continues to feel like a true home from home. Softly lit and thoughtfully arranged, the space has an airy, warm feel — with parents often commenting that “it’s like walking into a front room,” which is exactly what we set out to create.
As children grow in confidence, they begin sitting together at a small table, supporting independence and preparing them for the next stage of their nursery journey.
Sleep is carefully supported within the room itself, with children resting on sleep mats in line with current safer sleep guidance from The Lullaby Trust.
Double doors open directly onto a small, dedicated baby garden, complete with specialist rubber flooring to protect those all-important early steps and wobbly knees.
Daisy Room
12 Toddlers, Ratio 1:3 or 1:4 (depending on ages)
The Daisy Room is a bright, airy and vibrant space, thoughtfully designed to stimulate the senses of our busy toddlers.
A cosy, dedicated chill-out area provides a calm retreat for children to relax and enjoy a book. The wider room offers plenty of space for children to build train tracks, get creative with artwork and fully engage in play.
The room also includes two child-sized toileting facilities, supporting children as they begin to develop independence in their toileting routines.
Sleep is supported in a separate sleep room using specialist early years stackable beds, ensuring children can rest comfortably in line with our safe sleep practices.
Bluebell Room
16 Pre-schoolers, Ratio 1:4 or 1:8 (depending on ages)
The Bluebell Room is our vibrant preschool space — a bright, engaging environment full of character, with quirky eaves, a miniature settee and a wide range of activities to inspire curious minds.
Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether that’s discovering the world using our globe, creating their own version of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, or using our touchscreen to look up fascinating facts. The room also provides dedicated space for circle time, imaginative play in the home corner, and collaborative learning with friends.
During our Forest School sessions, preschool numbers are reduced, allowing for lower ratios and giving children more focused support. This creates valuable opportunities to build confidence, independence and key school readiness skills.
As with the Daisy Room, there are two child-sized toileting facilities to support independence.
For children who still require rest during the day, sleep is supported in our separate sleep room alongside their Daisy Room peers, using specialist early years beds.
Sleep & Sensory Room
Our Sleep & Sensory Room is a tranquil, calming space designed to support rest, relaxation and emotional wellbeing. The room features soothing sensory elements, including bubble tubes, soft fairy lights and a sky of fibre optic twinkling stars, creating a peaceful atmosphere for children to unwind.
We are equipped with specialist early years toddler beds to ensure children can rest comfortably and safely.
When not in use for sleep, the space is also used by our team for small group activities such as story time or quiet time, offering children a gentle, low-stimulation environment within the nursery day.
Our Garden
The Little Lane Secret Garden is a true oasis — a vibrant outdoor space designed to inspire exploration, imagination and play.
With a freshly laid artificial lawn, children can enjoy year-round outdoor play alongside an interactive gardening area, perfect for planting seeds and watching them grow. There’s a dedicated construction zone, a sand and water station for sensory play, and a creative music wall to spark curiosity and expression.
An undercover play area with specialist rubber flooring ensures outdoor fun can continue whatever the weather brings.
And don’t forget to look up… how many animals can you spot hidden around the garden?
